My most recent ride was the 3-day LD at Moab Canyons in the MT region. We rode days 2 and 3 with front boots. The ride before that was our first 50 at Grand Canyon XP (we rode day 4) with all 4 boots as it was very rocky.
I am using “0”s on the front and “00”s on the back. We use the burgundy blitz as Ladybug’s color is purple.
I have not made any modifications other than to adjust the cables on the fronts to get a tighter fit but that is the only modification.
I am still using my first set of boots. So far, I have 290 miles on the fronts and about half that on the rears and they are still going strong with very little sign of wear.
Our entire career has been barefoot or booted. Ladybug is a mustang and has never had shoes. Most rides I can ride her barefoot, but this year with the amount of miles that we did and the terrain we were covering, I ended up booting at least the fronts for most competitive rides but she was still great barefoot for regular trail rides and such.
I originally used another brand of hoof boot but was continually getting rub marks and a lot of trauma to the heel bulbs so I switched to Renegades to see if I could get away from that. I have absolutely no rubs anymore and the bonus is they are so easy to get on and off.
I think that horses are healthier when left barefoot so I plan to keep on doing what works for us.

Color Country – Hurricane, UT – 3 days = 75 miles (Top 10 day 1 and day 3)
Antelope Island – Syracuse, UT – 1 day = 25 miles – barefoot
Owyhee Fandango – Oreana, ID – 3 days = 75 miles (Top 10 day 1 and BC)
Strawberry Fields Forever – Strawberry, UT – 3 days = 75 miles
Shamrock – Wheatland, WY – 2 days = 50 miles
Pink Flamingo – Cascade, ID – 2 days = 55 miles – barefoot
Happy Jack – Laramie, WY – 2 days = 50 miles
Owyhee Canyonlands – Oreana, ID – 5 days = 140 miles (1 of only 5 that rode all 5 days on the same horse in LD) Top 10 on Day 1, Day 3 & Day 5 and BC on Day 1 and BC & High Vet score on day 3
Grand Canyon XP – Fredonia, AZ – 1 day = 50 miles
Moab Canyon – Moab, UT – 3 days = 75 miles
Total – 630 LD miles and 50 endurance miles with no pulls
