My barefoot trimmer, Lane Moore, suggested I get Renegades as my gelding’s hooves needed protection.

Here’s me and Woody, a 25-year-old appendix thoroughbred, on the banks of the Red Deer River that flows through the badlands ofAlberta. In this photo, he has just spotted his first canoe.

Woody has had a stellar career as a real working cowhorse on the big ranges of Saskatchewan. It’s estimated he has dragged 30,000 calves to a branding fire and sorted 500,000 pair (cows and calves). He had been shod every summer for 22 years (he’s 25 now) and chances are he’ll never be able to be ridden completely barefoot, but with the help of Renegades he’ll still remain sound and continue to enjoy his ‘retirement’ while seeing new sights and new country.
