I rode in the Horses Help Trail Trials at McDowell Mountain Park on March 21, 2009, on my 14 yr old MFT gelding Harley in his CHOCO LATTE´ Renegade® hoof boots. We tied for 2nd place in the Open Masters division. There were 8 obstacles along the 7 mile trail. Harley negotiated each one of the obstacles with precision the same as if he were barefoot.

The terrain varied with sandy washes, decomposed granite, and rocky hills. The obstacles included skilled maneuvers such as turning on the forehand, side passing, trotting over pools, cantering over a log, stepping over and straddling a board with a dismount/mount while standing quite, walking over/standing on a bridge, and standing still while picking up a spooky hat off the ground with a long pole, a lot relying on surefootedness.

Both my horses have been barefoot since Nov 2007 and I’ve been using Renegades from the beginning. I like them because they are so easy to use and don’t rub my horses feet. I like the fact that I can choose to just take them along and put them on quickly if I run across a rocky trail. Even when riding with others, it’s not an inconvenience to stop and put them on or take them off. I now have every color except the Dragon Fire Red, Yellow Gold and Burgundy Blitz.
